Fabb Cafe & Gelato Arrives in Parkhurst

Oh Ice Cream, how I love you so. As a Type 1 Diabetic, people think that I can never ever eat sugar, which isn’t really the truth. Rather, eating sugar needs to be a special occasion – something that only happens every now and then, which I can inject myself with insulin accordingly for, and which doesn’t turn into a habit. So, when I eat sugar, it needs to be worth it. I’m talking life-changing-mouth-melting-head-spinning deliciousness – which, luckily, is exactly how I’d describe the ice cream at Fabb Cafe & Gelato in Parkhurst.

I heard that Fabb Cafe & Gelato was opening yesterday, and because it seemed like it was about a billion degrees outside, I grabbed my friend Nadine and we headed to Parkhurst to try some of their ice cream, which I can now say was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve long been obsessed with The Fat Zebra (if you haven’t been before, you seriously need to get yourself there for breakfast or dinner soon) so I was super amped to discover that Fabb Cafe & Gelato is owned by the same team. Right in the middle of Parkhurst’s famous 4th Avenue (directly across from one of my other Parkhurst favourites, Africology) you can’t miss Fabb Cafe & Gelato – it’s been beautifully decorated in a flurry of blue and white that made me feel like I was back eating gelato on the streets of Rome. Grazie Signore per il gelato.

And it’s not a surprise that these sweet treats made me hark back to my time in Italy, because it’s actually real Italian homemade artisan gelato that they make right there on site – and you can totally taste it. Nadine and I spent a full twenty minutes just standing in front of the ice cream case like a bunch of kids, testing all the different flavours – and there are LOADS. I wished I could have just had a full cone of each one. It was hard to pick, but our favourites were the flawless Vanilla, the Passion Fruit, and the Biscotti – all made with full cream milk, no preservatives, and no artificial colouring. And I was so amped to discover that they have the MOST DELICIOUS vegan chocolate gelato – I can’t wait to take my friend Dani there on a vegan date.

If you’re not a gelato person (seriously, what is wrong with you) then that’s cool, too – amazingly, Fabb Cafe & Gelato don’t just do ice cream. We were treated to an incredible Belgian waffle (served with soft serve, but you can also get it without if you’re a total weirdo) which was delicious, and they also do fantastic coffee, great breakfast options, and light lunches. I’m already planning to take Ant back for lunch and convince him that we need ice cream for dessert.

As the last few hot days of summer fade, I know I’ll be finding every excuse to head out to Fabb Cafe & Gelato for a sweet treat, and then probably even more so when it begins to cool down and I can have coffee and waffles instead – so come say hi when you pop in and see me there.
