My Unmissable Favourites at HOMEMAKERS Expo 2018
You’ll know from the blog that I’m an embarrassingly obsessed loser when it comes to home decor. I spend most of my time (and most of my paycheques) looking at ways to make our home even homier, from DIY projects to room renovations and everything in between, and I’ll be honest, it drives my husband a little insane. No sooner is one room ‘done’ before I’m already eyeing up the next one and thinking of all the ways I can turn it into the most Pinterest-worthy pad on earth. So, you can imagine how events like the HOMEMAKERS Expo 2018 make me a little bit loopy. Not every single thing there gets me going (ooh, err…) but there are some really incredible pieces to be found every time I go – which is why I forced myself to attend without my wallet in hand this year, though it was pretty darn impossible. Last year I chatted with you guys about My 5 Top Picks from HOMEMAKERS Expo 2017, and in keeping with tradition (because, goodness, I love tradition) here are My 5 Top Picks for HOMEMAKERS Expo 2018.
Coote and Wench Design Company
Right, I’ll admit it, including Coote and Wench seems like a little bit of a cheat, because I also featured them last year. BUT, with that said, I genuinely don’t care that this is a repeat because their stuff is INCREDIBLE. Their mix of lights and mirrors and copper and wood is something super wonderful to behold, and the passing of a year has not dimmed my utter obsession with them. Follow them on Facebook to keep up with their newest creations.
DID SOMEBODY SAY PLANTS? I think maybe I feel the way about plants that other people do about shoes – I can’t seem to stop collecting them and when I see one I can’t imagine living without it and my house is now filling up in each and every corner with them. So, a visit to the Garden World stand at HOMEMAKERS Expo 2018 is an absolute must. They’ve got loads of succulents, hanging baskets, and air plants, and they’re pretty well priced so you can bring something special home to breathe some air into the place. Check them out on Facebook.
Wolkberg Casting Studio
I first came across the work of the Wolkberg team at The Storr Room at 27 Boxes in Melville, and I have been dying to get my hands on one of their incredible pieces ever since. Everything they produce is made of Limesite, an innovative high-performance concrete, and it is absolutely beautiful. They make everything from cladding to hanging lights, tables, and their signature Limelights, which I love love love. Give them a follow to stay up with things on Facebook.
The T-Shirt Bed Co.
If you’re like me, sleeping in a t-shirt (read as: your husband’s t-shirt, which really peeves him off because then he doesn’t have any clean t-shirts but he lets you do it anyway because he’s a thoroughly nice bloke) is a daily occurrence because, well, what’s more comfortable than a t-shirt? A BED MADE OF T-SHIRTS. This may explain why I adore The T-Shirt Bed Co. so much – they produce the softest, most luxurious and all-round prettiest bed linen in all the land, and it’s comfortable as hell. Plus they’re running a 20% off deal exclusively for the expo so you have no excuse not to sleep on it… GET IT GUYS?! Check out their beautiful stuff on Facebook here before I embarrass myself any further.
The Annie Sloan Studio
My cheeky love affair with Annie Sloan (well, with her paint – settle down, kids) is no secret, and I’m always raving about how great her chalk paint is to any poor human who might keep still long enough on the street. The HOMEMAKERS Expo 2018 features a super lovely paint studio where you can actually learn how to do different painting techniques from Annie Sloan artist in residence, Jonathon Marc Mendes. If you don’t already read the gospel according to Annie, check out her SA Facebook Page to find out more about what her paint can do.
